Sevilla, Spain - "Monument to the Cid Campeador de Sevilla". The monument to El Cid Campeador de Sevilla is a statue on pedestal, both large, which has the figure of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar "El Cid Campeador", as protagonist, and which is located on the avenue of El Cid of this city. This colossal bronze statue was donated to the city of Seville by the sculptor Anna Huntington, wife of the Hispanic and billionaire Archer Milton Huntington, founder of the Hispanic Society of America in New York, which at that time was very close to the city through of the archaeological excavations that took place in Itálica . The people in charge of the city council of Seville doubted very much about which would be the most appropriate site for their placement, opting for this place, in front of the main entrance to the Ibero-American Exhibition , based on the indications made by the monarch Alfonso XIII himself . The monument was inaugurated on September 22, 1927 , being mayor of the city Nicolás Díaz Molero . The figure of the Cid appears mounted on his horse Bavieca in triumphant attitude, on a high stone pedestal of rectangular base design by the architect Vicente Traver y Tomás . Said pedestal has engraved on its two fronts major paths legends. On one of the fronts you can read: "SEVILLA / DORADA CUT OF THE KING POET MOTAMID / HOSPEDO TO MIO CID AMBASSADOR / OF ALFONSO VI AND I SAW YOU TO RETURN / VICTORIOUS OF THE KING OF GRANADA."
