Introducing Semantic Tagging: Smart Suggestions Based on Your Selection
By Jenna Black - 1 min read
A quicker and easier way to get your photos discovered.
Today we’re rolling out an even easier way to tag your photos on EyeEm. We’ve trained our computer vision models to understand semantics – or the branch of linguistics concerned with meaning.
What does this mean for you?
Once you upload a photo, you see both pre-selected and suggested tags based on what’s in your image. With semantic tagging, you’ll start seeing the suggested tags to change to relevant keywords based on the ones you choose. The more you add, the more accurate the suggestions will become.
With the image below, you can see how the tags change as you select various keywords.
– If you tap on “French Fries”, “Burger” “Ketchup” and “Cheeseburger” show up as new suggestions
– If you then tap on “Ketchup”, “Mustard” “hamburger” “pub food” show up as new suggestions
– Finally, if you tap on “mustard”, “Hot dog” “processed meat” and “paper plate” show up as new suggestions

Semantic tagging will help you tag your photos even faster and more accurately – giving your photos an additional boost to be discovered.
Today we’re rolling this out on Android, with iOS coming in the near future. As always, we appreciate your feedback – we can’t wait for you to try it out!
