Follow Friday: Street Photography

By EyeEm Team - 8 min read

With the start of this week’s mission “Street Life”, what could be more exciting than getting inspired by a bunch of super talented street photographers? That’s why we reached out to 9 up and coming street shooters from places as diverse as Indonesia, Toronto, New York City, Madrid, Sydney and Philadelphia and asked them to introduce themselves.

People of EyeEm!

Welcome to your weekly dose of inspiration.

With the start of this week’s mission Street Life, what could be more exciting than getting inspired by a bunch of super talented street photographers? That’s why we reached out to 9 up and coming street shooters from places as diverse as Indonesia, Toronto, New York City, Madrid, Sydney and Philadelphia and asked them to introduce themselves.

What can we say.. we are truly overwhelmed by the amazing quality of the shots these guys produce, and we hope you are too.

Enjoy your weekend and let’s take photos together!

(And add them to the streetphotography album)

1.Edy Sutanto

My name is Edy Sutanto I´m a 30 years old graphic designer / art director / founder at maxciti.com.**I’m inspired by everything, movies, advertising/commercial, animation, illustration, other people work/photos, EyeEm.

I want to keep learning or train my eye to take better photos and to capture all special moments that I have experienced and share them with other people.

2._jp

I am JP from Sydney, Australia. What inspires me to do streetphotography is the opportunity to capture a moment that I would have missed. This has made me aware and appreciate more of my surrounding.

I love photography because it allows me to be who I am and express myself.

3.FragileGlass

My lenses are as fragile as the subjects I capture. This is why I chose to publish my captures under the name Fragile Glass. I am Derek Shanks, a Toronto, Ontario, Canada based black and white photographer.

My photographic passion spans 20 years using film and digital SLR’s. I am always in search of challenges, which brought about my recent experiment of documenting street stories using my iPhone along side my traditional camera’s.

4.aurora michavila

My name is Aurora Michavila. I was born in Barcelona and currently live in Madrid after calling home Buenos Aires, Miami and above all NYC. 17 years now since I left my home town and still eager to explore what the world has to offer. Street Photography is my passion.

I steal moments. Actions, reactions. Public scenes, private moments. Emotions. The real life… And sometimes I make it look like fiction.

5.Dana

My name is Dana and I am from the City of Brotherly Love, better known as Philadelphia. Because I grew up in the city I was exposed to different races and cultures and I was able to see the economic differences between neighborhoods and people.

I find all of these factors inspiring and because photography allows me to capture the beauty of a person and their surroundings, whether they are from the “barrio” or from an affluent neighborhood, this is what led me to the love and passion for street photography.

6.Justin hevey

Justin’s an independent photographer/designer who lives and works in Sydney, Australia and who travels as often as possible seeking moments of clarity.

It’s an endless search but through the camera lens it’s an ongoing search of light and space and the presence inbetween, be it human or still life. Why do I love photography? It’s the capturing of a moment in time that excites me and the ever chasing of that moment.

7.Lee Thatcher

I recently became interested in street photography after seeing the work of Richard “Koci” Hernandez and Thomas Leuthard. I really enjoy seeing people behaving as naturally as possible and out shooting on the streets with an iPhone that’s exactly what I get.

As mentioned, I’m really inspired by Thomas and Koci, but every day I find new photographers on EyeEm that just blow me away with their talent.

Although I don’t listen to music whilst I shoot as I like to be really tuned in to what’s going on around me I do listen to music such as Radiohead or Bright Eyes whilst in my digital darkroom (my iPad or iPhone) and that heavily influences the images that I decide to post.

8.Latula

Hi, I´m Marta from Madrid. I love to capture “urban moments” with my iPhone. It´s so exciting and entertaining for me and, in this way, you can walk with me along my city. The cities and the citizens are my inspiration. In short, I’m a iPhoneographer addicted to street photography

9.Roland Valentine Newton III

I’m Roland Valentine Newton III (rolonewton) from New York City. The photographs I post are all iPhone using “Streetmate”. I don’t use filters, but sometimes I’ll use “Camera Flash” to fix exposure or tweak the white balance using “Snapseed”.

I concentrate on people because I’m curious to know the stories of strangers. Sometimes the story peeks out in unguarded moments and i feel privileged to be there too see it. Lately I’ve been thinking about what makes a picture “happen”.

Its like a kind of magic. When it works it’s not me and my ego imposing a story, I’m just there open and fully present. It feels like a gift that the world is giving me at that moment… and then I release the shutter.
